Getting Started
As part of our commitment to motivate you to improve your health and fitness level, everyone is required to view a brief orientation video of the facility. Orientation can be completed online by viewing the video and filing out required paperwork, or can be completed in person during Fitness Center hours.
The Fitness Center is open at no cost to:
- Currently enrolled Kent State Stark students
- Kent State faculty, staff and administrators
- Spouses of Kent State faculty, staff and administrators, family
members, dependents and significant others of Kent State
faculty, staff and administrators. Dependents must be at least
16 years of age to use the facility. - Retired Kent State faculty, staff and administrators
Dress Code
Our dress code is strictly enforced in order to prevent disease transmission. Those not adhering to the dress code will be asked to leave immediately.
Before using the facility, you must change into the proper athletic attire.
- Only shirts which cover the entire stomach, chest and back are permitted.
- Leotards, mid-drift shirts, tank tops, jeans and cut-offs are not permitted.
- Dry closed-toed athletic shoes are required. Socks-only, dress shoes, boots, sandals or open-toed shoes are not permitted.
- Wear clean clothes while working out. Body odor is offensive to other patrons.

Fitness Center Rules
Individuals not adhering to the following rules may be asked to leave. The Fitness Center reserves the right to revoke the membership of anyone who violates the rules.Closing Time
- All Members must be aware of the closing time and be prepared to exit at least 5 minutes prior to closing
Do Not Disrupt Classes
- The physical education classes have priority over recreational use. Please be respectful. Disruptive behaviors such as loud noises and/or horseplay can cause interferences in the classroom.
Do Not Touch the Stereo, Computer or Telephones
- Do not adjust the volume or play personal CDs on the stereo.
- No students are admitted into offices or behind the front desk to use computers, phones and/or equipment without permission.
Food and Drinks
- No food, gum or beverages other than water are permitted in the facility.
Inappropriate Behavior
- Bouncing balls against walls or participating in free-throwing games in the gym is not permitted.
- Spitting on the floor or in the water fountains is unacceptable.
Locker Room Use
- Due to the lack of space, we ask that you do not loiter in the changing areas.
- Lockers are for day use only. Locks will be cut off if left overnight and items will be sent to the Lost & Found located in the Business Office.
No Children or Guests Allowed
- No children under the age of 16 are permitted.
- No guest passes of any kind are available.
Personal Belongings
- No items will be held at the front desk. All personal belongings must be kept in the locker room at all times. Staff is not responsible for your belongings.
- Check the Lost & Found bin (located in the side office) if you have left something in the Fitness Center.
Pick Up After Yourself
- Return jump ropes and bands to the front desk, fitness magazines to the racks, and weight plates/dumbbells to their designated places. DO NOT leave dumbbells on the floor or weight plates on the bar.
- Throw your paper towels in the trash and utilize recycle bins.
Proper Use of the Equipment
- Do not sit on equipment between sets.
- When lifting over 100 pounds, you must have a spotter.
- No banging of the weight machines or free weights allowed.
Sanitize Machines
- Members are required to clean machines after each use. Sanitizer and paper towels are provided in the equipment area.
“Most Important" Rule
- Ignorance or “I didn’t know” will not be tolerated as an excuse. A complete version of the Fitness Center policies and procedures is provided during the registration and video orientation. If you would like a copy, please ask a staff member.
