2013 First Year Experience Summer Service Projects
Join forces with your future classmates and contribute your time and talents to an area organization. Working together to serve others is the best way to meet new people, develop leadership skills and jumpstart your involvement at Kent State Stark!Students enrolled in US 10097: Destination Kent State FYE will be required to complete involvement assignments. By participating in a Summer Service Project, you will receive credit for one of these assignments.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore
4525 Cleveland Avenue NW
Canton
TIME: 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
DATES: RESERVATION DEADLINE (or until date fills):
June 14 June 7
July 26 July 19
Space is limited to 15 participants each date.
SORRY, ALL RESTORE DATES ARE FILLED.
DUTIES:
Students may do any of the following: work in the loading dock to help take in donations of household items, clean and arrange merchandise, and/or stock shelves.
DRESS CODE:
- Due to safety reasons, you must wear closed-toe shoes.
No sandals or flip-flops. - Wear comfortable shoes. We suggest sneakers or tennis shoes.
- Dress in casual clothing that can get dirty.
- ReStore is NOT air conditioned.
- Do not wear short-shorts, low-cut tops, sagging pants or inappropriate t-shirts.
- No smoking.
WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU:
- You are required to complete this online volunteer application.
- You will also be asked to complete a waiver on site.
PARKING:
- Park in back parking lot.
- Ask for Sue or Kelly upon arrival.

Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank
350 Opportunity Parkway

TIME: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
DATES: RESERVATION DEADLINE (or until date fills):

Space is limited to 30 participants each date.

DUTIES:
Warehouse setting: sorting and inspecting donated items, labeling bags and bottles, repacking bulk items into smaller quantities, etc. Project supervisor will determine the project.
DRESS CODE:
- Due to safety reasons, you must wear closed-toe shoes.
No sandals or flip-flops. - Wear comfortable shoes. We suggest sneakers or tennis shoes.
- Dress in casual clothing that can get dirty.
- Dress in layers for the weather. Warehouse is NOT air conditioned.
- Do not wear short-shorts, low-cut tops, sagging pants or inappropriate t-shirts.
- No smoking.
WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU:
- You are required to complete a volunteer application. Bring completed application with you on your volunteer date.
- Print Volunteer Application PDF.
PARKING:
- Driving directions to the Foodbank.
- Volunteer parking is located in the front of the facility. Additional parking is located on the side of the facility, just follow the signs.
- Enter through the Visitor's Entrance and stop at the reception desk.
- Ask for Cynthia Humphrey, Volunteer Coordinator.

Stark Parks Towpath Clean-Up
5400 Block of Butterbridge Road

TIME: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
DATE: RESERVATION DEADLINE (or until date fills):
August 16 August 9
Space is limited to 30 participants.

DUTIES:
Volunteers will work on cleaning up a section of the Towpath.
DRESS CODE:
- Due to safety reasons, you must wear closed-toe shoes.
No sandals or flip-flops. - Wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots.
- Dress in casual clothing that can get dirty. Stark Parks recommends jeans and long-sleeved shirts due to the time of year when thick foliage and thorns are plentiful.
- Do not wear short-shorts, low-cut tops, sagging pants or inappropriate t-shirts.
- No smoking.
WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU:
- Work or gardening gloves.
- Bug repellent, water and sunscreen.
- You will be required to complete a liability form on site.
