Smart Start Saturday Parent Sessions

Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012  ⋅  9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Parental and guest attendance at Smart Start Saturday is optional. However, if your parents plan to attend with you, we have some great programming just for them. While new students are attending their orientation sessions, parents and guests will attend the following sessions:

Main Hall Lobby
8:45 - 9 a.m.

Creating a Game Plan

Fine Arts Theatre
9 - 10 a.m.
College students succeed because they work hard, stay committed and make good decisions. If you are going to coach a successful student into the postseason you need to know the playbook. This session give you some playbook tools to prepare you to support your family member as he or she begins a college career at Kent State Stark.

Staying Off the DL
Fine Arts Theatre
10:15 - 11 a.m.
Every now and then there’s a fumble, and somebody could get hurt! In this session you’ll learn to recognize and understand the signs of stress and distress in your student, as well as the campus resources available to keep your student succeeding to the end‐zone!

Bring in the Special Teams
Fine Arts Theatre
11:15 - 12:15 p.m.
This is not a scrimmage… it’s game time! This session will help YOU help your students “tackle” problems as they arise. Come to this session and receive advice from people who have been there and learn about what college students need most from their families and support staff.

Cookout & Resource Tables

Campus Center
12:30 - 1 p.m.
Your student will be given cookout tickets upon submitting their orientation session punch card (students must attend four sessions to receive cookout tickets). Punch cards can be submitted for tickets in the Main Hall Lobby. Students are permitted to bring two guests.
