RecycleMania Challenge February 2 - March 29Posted Jan. 30, 2014
Kent State University at Stark, one of the largest recyclers in Stark County, is challenging you to do even more to reduce the waste that threatens our environment. Building on the campus’s core value to “respect and protect the campus green space and our region's ecological environment,” students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in RecycleMania, a competition between colleges and universities throughout the nation to increase recycling and decrease waste on campuses. The competition begins February 2 and continues through March 29, 2014.
The program focuses on overall waste reduction instead of just recycling. The goal during this 8-week period is to generate the lowest possible amount of total waste per capita, which includes both trash and recycling. RecycleMania is designed to positively affect the future of colleges and universities by raising the awareness of how our everyday habits affect our planet.
By remembering four simple tips, the campus community will help Kent State Stark’s recycling efforts and create ongoing, positive habits that will help our environment’s future.
- Want to win? PUT IT IN THE BIN!
Dispose of paper, plastic, glass and aluminum cans in marked containers to prevent them from ending up in a landfill.
- Be nice ... USE IT TWICE!
Fill up your water bottles at any re-fill station throughout campus. Purchase a reusable cup in the Bookstore for $5.99 and receive a discount on coffee and soft drink refills from the Emporium.
- Be “green-minded” ... PRINT TWO-SIDED!
Whenever possible, set your printer setting to two-sided, reducing the use of unnecessary paper and ink.
- It’s not trivial ... TO GO DIGITAL!
Think twice about printing documents, e-mail messages, pictures and website information. Save a digital copy or make a screenshot instead. Digital copies are easy to share with others and don’t waste paper or ink.
