Kent State University at Stark Theatre has announced open auditions for the season’s musical theatrical production, Songs For A New World by Jason Robert Brown. Auditions will be held on Friday, Nov. 19, from 11 a.m. - noon and 1:30-2:30 p.m., as well as Monday, Nov. 22 and Tuesday, Nov. 23, from 7-9:30 p.m. in the theatre of the Fine Arts Building, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township. Auditions are open to everyone, including students and community members.
Audition appointments may be scheduled with the secretary of the Fine Arts Building by visiting the office or calling 330-244-5151.
The production will be performed on February 18, 19, 25 and 26 at 8 p.m. and February 20 and 27 at 2:30 p.m. in the Kent State Stark Fine Arts Theatre. Roles are available for men and women in a variety of ages. Regular rehearsals will begin in early January, after an initial meeting, and will usually occur five evenings a week until opening.
Librettos and musical scores are available for periods up to 24 hours from the secretary of the Fine Arts Building, Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. This material will also be placed on reserve in the campus library. Auditionees should prepare a song from Songs For A New World, or similar material, and bring sheet music, if necessary. Accompaniment is preferred, although a backing track will be sufficient.
