2007-2008 Featured Speaker Series

The Featured Speaker Series includes nationally and internationally known experts in areas such as civil rights, politics, education, literature, the arts and other numerous topics. The series is designed to expose students and community members to a wide range of topics and issues facing our society.

All programs are free and open to the public, however, seating is limited. Groups are welcome.

All Featured Speakers Series events are located in Timken Great Hall at the Kent State Stark Professional Education and Conference Center, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township. Programs begin at 7:30 p.m. Building opens at 6:45 p.m.

"An Evening with Dave Barry"
After graduating from Haverford College, Dave Barry was hired by the local newspaper in West Chester, Penn. In 1975, he joined Burger Associates, a consulting firm that specialized in teaching effective writing to business people. Eight years later, he accepted a position at the Miami Herald writing a weekly column that focused on numerous issues, ranging from the international economy to exploding toilets. His column, which won him the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in 1988, became famous for providing wit and wisdom for readers throughout the world.Through syndication, his work has appeared in more than 500 newspapers in the United States and abroad. Barry has also authored 30 books, two of which were used as the basis for the CBS television sitcom Dave's World.
